Ever thought about skating in the same rink as the pros? Well in Illinois you can do just that! How about an outdoor rink located right downtown next to one of the most historical baseball fields in the world? Illinois has you covered on that one as well. Whether you are an avid skater, or are just looking for a fun adventure for you and your loved ones, Illinois has something perfect for you.

 

Winterland at Gallagher Way, Chicago

When the Cubs are in the off season and winter rolls around, the outside of Wrigley Field is transformed into a winter wonderland. Winterland at Gallagher Way is a wonderful skating location for all skill levels and ages. There are lessons, free skates and a ton of other activities in the surrounding area. Not to mention you get to take in the incredible history of the Chicago Cubs as you glide through the city.

 

Cost: $6 for ages 13 and older. Free for children 12 and under.

The Skating Rink at Millennium Park, Chicago

We aren’t talking about the bean. We’re talking about the real draw of Millenium Park, at least in the winter months. That’s right, the Skating Rink at Millenium Park is a Chicago staple and a venue enjoyed by tons of locals and tourists. Skating is free with a preregistration and skate rentals are available for a small cost.

Fleetwood Roller Rink

Here’s a sneak peek into everyone’s favourite roller rink in Chicagoland. Fleetwood Roller Rink has been running for over 65 years and is quite proud of their ‘old-school style’ rink. There’s fun for everyone, and you can’t beat a night of roller skating under strobe lights with friends and family. Skating has a lot of opportunities off ice and Fleetwood is a perfect example of one!

Skating at the Blackhawks Practice Facility

The Chicago Blackhawks are the pride and joy of hockey fans in Chicago and the rest of Illinois. Whether it be the past accomplishments as an Original 6 team, or the recent dynasty backed by Kane, Toews and Keith, the Chicago Blackhawks represent hockey royalty. The organization enables fans to public skate at their practice facility – Fifth Third Arena. For a small admission fee, you can skate where the Blackhawks finetune their game.
