Depending on your child’s age, the recommended next step is Level Up Hockey at your local Canlan Sports location. If Level Up isn’t available for all age groups at your location, participants can register for a Skills & Drills program as an alternative.

What equipment do I need for Try Hockey?

Participants need full hockey equipment, including a neck guard and a helmet with a cage or full facial shield. If participants don’t have this equipment, our sports complex team will provide it.

Who is Try Hockey for?

Try Hockey is designed for children ages 5-8, the primary age group for Level Up. Participants outside of this age range can contact the Youth League and Program Manager at their complex for options for their age group.

What can I enroll in after completing Try Skating?

After completing Try Skating, we encourage participants to continue their skating journey with a Learn to Skate program. Starting with the first steps on the ice, Learn to Skate offers a progressive pathway that prepares children to transition to hockey and other ice sports.

What should I bring for Try Skating?

Please bring the following: – Snow pants or warm pants – A winter jacket – Warm gloves or mittens – Skates and a helmet with facemask (available if you don’t have them)

What equipment do I need for Try Skating?

Participants are welcome to bring their own skates and a certified helmet with facemask. If you don’t have them, we’ll provide them for the session. On busier sessions, sizing may be limited so make sure to include your shoe size in your registration.

Try Skating is available for children ages 3-12. Whether your child is stepping on ice for the very first time or you want to gauge their readiness before committing to a full program, Try Skating is the ideal starting point.
