1. Accessibility. We provide all the gear your child may need to get started in the sport, because all kids should be able to give hockey a shot.
2. A safe and inclusive environment. Our instructors are trained to lead children through their development, at their own pace. We focus on inclusivity as it fosters teamwork and respect to make all children feel welcomed.
3. Providing a quality sport experience, accredited by governing bodies of youth sport development. Our program prioritizes fun and friendships, just as high as skill development.
4. Consistent dates and times. You’ll never have to worry about your family’s schedule, because this program doesn’t have any surprises. Same day, time and place for 24 weeks.

5-8 years old. Please note, we will make age exceptions for children who are 4 years old at the start of the program, as long as they turn 5 within the 2023 calendar year.

Yes, your child must have the ability to skate without the use of skate aid.
Children must be able to stand on their own and get up on their own as well as skate across the rink successfully, including stops & starts, forwards & backwards and falling to get back up independently.

The breakdown of the cost is:
$600 towards the 24-week program
$150 deposit for the gear, which will be reimbursed when the gear is returned at the end of the program.

We also have a payment plan, as follows:

There is a $150 deposit for the gear.
This will be returned at the end of the program when the gear is returned. If the player remains in our programs, camps and/or leagues, they will have an opportunity to continue use the gear provided.

All instructors have extensive training in skating, hockey, and child development.
Our instructors champion on-ice experience, including building confidence and connections between the participants. In addition, they have taken our proprietary Canlan Sports training modules, as well training provided by Sport For Life on: Introduction to Physical Literacy, Introduction to Long-Term Development in Sport and Physical Activity, and Keeping Girls in Sport.

Individual skill development will follow Canlan Sports’ evolving program curriculum, as accredited by Sport for Life. The program is based on a 12-week cycle, with each lesson having a focus on 3 milestones within the curriculum pathway. Every 4 weeks, the focus will turn to game play. Each 12-week segment also includes a session for evaluation so parents and participants will get an opportunity to see progress being made.

Safety is paramount to the experiences we provide, so as we do with all Canlan Sports programs and camps. Level Up focuses on age-appropriate skills, an appropriate instructor to student ratio, and we provide onsite oversight to ensure safety is the main priority.

Yes, the program includes small area games as part of the weekly curriculum. Every 4th session the focus turns to fun, cross-ice game play!

All program training will be executed on the ice.
Our off-ice activities include our Welcome Event which includes the retrieval of equipment. During this time, families will have the opportunity to understand what gear is required to play, how to dress, and maintain the equipment. Participants will also meet their instructor and other participants to start building friendships with their teammates.

One of the real advantages of this program is that there is no travel!
All the sessions take place at the same rink, each week. This provides an opportunity for families to schedule other activities without the worry of changing program times or driving to different sports complexes. Level Up is all under one roof, at the same time each week.

Instructors are always available to provide feedback on an individual's successes and challenges. We dedicate one session to player evaluation every 12 weeks (2 per program) which will be shared with parents to help track their childs progress.

Participants will be in smaller working groups of similar abilities for the practice sessions. Teams will be balanced every fourth week to ensure teams are evenly balanced.

Program standard. We understand that a Quality Sport Experience extends far beyond traditional physical skill development. Our approach includes building in an on-ice approach and activities that focus on teamwork, sportsmanship, and encourage connection and inclusivity for the all the participants.
